This Weekend of Play

Posted by Derek Haley on Sep 22 2008 at 08:00AM PDT

Unfortunately, not all our paperwork was in order this past weekend, so we were not able to play the scheduled games. We are correcting the problem, and expect to be ready to play on Sunday.

Thank you to all the parents that helped cutting the grass, lining the field, setting up the goals, and taking down the goals. We need everyone to help do something, please.

We have to a better job showing our kids what good sportsmanship is; that includes being supportive of them – whether they win or lose. I know we all hate losing, but if the kids think they are disappointing you, their parents, they will eventually stop playing soccer. At this age, it is more important to support the effort, rather than result.

Set a good example. Give the kids a tunnel to run through at the end of the game – win or lose – because it means more to them then you can imagine. If you are like me, you bleed the colors of your favorite team – whether its Columbia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, United States, or any other team – if they are good or bad, win or lose, they are still your team. Make sure you give your kids at least that same respect and support.
